Hi friend, you’re right on time! I’m so glad you made it.

Winter Weathering is a series of prompts to help those of us who have a hard time during winter. Whether you experience seasonal affective disorder (SAD), depression, or simply need a boost from time to time: welcome. I hope these posts can be a light when things feel dark, and maybe prompt you to do something kind for yourself.

Additionally, these ideas are intended to be accessible, so you won’t find anything like “Go start a new snow sport” that requires all new gear, etc. The intention is small activities that you can easily take part in without much extra time or money. We’re going for quick wins to boost that dopamine!

Now, here is some important info for going forward:

  • Pictures on the internet CAN be a good thing, but if things are feeling particularly bleak they CANNOT replace vitamins/healthy lifestyle, therapy, or medication.

If you need someone to give you permission to take a bigger step to care for yourself, this is your permission slip.

  • Use these prompts as a jumping off point!

“Buy a new book” doesn’t mean you HAVE to go spend money—maybe ask a friend if you can borrow a book, go to your local library, or find a Little Free Library near you. This is supposed to be fun, so do what you can with what you have!

  • If you are really struggling right now and feel like maybe you don’t want to be here with us anymore, please tell someone—I know it sucks, but please tell someone. You are not alone, and there are more of us than you may think.

If you don’t have anyone in your life to talk to, you can text Hello to 741741 in the US or UK (or 686868 in Canada) to chat with a counselor at Crisis Text Line.

Or call 988 for the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.
